December: River of Blood/Venus in Chains

Side 1:

  1. River of Blood

Side 2:

  1. Venus in Chains

This new December 7" is broken into two distinct halves, both physically and musically. Both songs, while structurally the same, are musically very opposite in nature, with one being very upbeat and the other being very depressing. The first side contains, 'River of Blood' which is very lively, with a strong acoustic guitar section, live acoustic drums, chant like vocals, and some odd unique percussion. The second side contains, 'Venus in Chains' which is an exceedingly somber, traditional gothic piece with morbid guitars, subdued male vocals and more highly unconventional percussion. Each side seems to mirror the other in intensity and passion with percussion as their common musical element. While belonging quite obviously to the gothic subculture, December is the only gothic band that also use a great deal of tribal and experimental percussion to accentuate it's music. This tiny element is what makes it stand out from all the other gothic clones and makes December a band to watch out for in the future.
